School Expeditions to Africa and Asia off this summer

“200 local students volunteer with Camps International in Africa and Asia this summer”

200 students and teachers from Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire will be travelling out to Africa and Asia this summer with Camps International to make a difference to local communities, wildlife and the environment. Participating schools include Queen Elizabeth’s School in Wimborne (25 students), Lavington School in Wiltshire (21 students)  and  Ringwood School in Hampshire (28 students). Volunteers have spent the last 18 months working very hard to fundraise over £3000 each to go on the trip of a lifetime.

The volunteers will be travelling to Kenya, Tanzania, Borneo and Cambodia staying in a variety of Camps owned and operated by Camps International. Volunteers in Asia will spend time sleeping in the jungle in hammocks and have the chance to stay on their own tropical island learning to dive. Volunteers in Africa will have the opportunity to summit Mt Kenya or Mt Meru at over 4500 meters these are two of the highest peaks in Africa.

One of the many projects involves making recycled paper from a sustainable source, the backend of an elephant. Elephant dung paper can then be sold to tourists providing an ongoing income to local communities. Camps International have helped students plant over 600,000 trees in the last 4 years and help protect 130,000 acres of wildlife habitat.
