Headline: An Ethical Journey Without Compromise

Camps International are running an expedition of a lifetime in Africa to complete a range of humanitarian, conservation and environmental projects. Due to depart in September 2012 and with hopeful aid from a celebrity, the participants will embark on activities that will transform the lives of the indigenous communities throughout Kenya. This event will be their most ambitious project to date and will demonstrate in an extraordinary way – what can be achieved by ordinary people committed to positive change. The aptly named ‘Life’ Expedition will last only two weeks, but the impact and difference they make will be permanent.

A team of professionals is to be recruited and taken to the heart of the Taru desert, in Kenya. Working round the clock to construct classrooms, medical clinics, dig water holes, immunize livestock and help convey Olympic ideals in the year of the Olympics. This will be a genuine challenge that delivers genuine benefits and is definitely not for the faint hearted. Everyone will also be tasked to raise funds for the Camps Foundation and in return for their hard work; they will have a truly humbling and unforgettable experience with life changing results.

The CEO, Stuart Jones (who is available for interviews) will be leading the expedition and hopes that with celebrity involvement a greater awareness can be generated for the challenges facing the Kenyan communities and the message of Peace One Day. There will also be opportunities to sponsor each stage of the expedition for anyone wanting to get involved with the activities portrayed through a video documentary that will be filmed throughout.

The heavily subsidised expedition will reflect the unique nature of what Camps International do every day and embodies the principles they live by – to provide unwavering ethical, sustainable and premium support at all times. The expedition comes in a year where Camps International celebrates 10 years of successful projects and it will culminate on the 21^st September 2012 – Peace Day! It’s going to be epic.

Sports Development Expedition to Kenya

Travel dates: 22^nd August – 20^th September 2011

Camps International is delighted to support the Bristol-Kenya partnership to help deliver the important sporting, educational and cultural links between Bristol and Kenya whilst promoting Olympic ideals.

What is SDX?

The Sports Development Expedition (SDX), developed by Camps International is a unique programme aims to promote sport as a toll for social change in Kenya. SDX was established in 2007 and has received national awards and recognition. To date volunteers have worked with under-privileged Kenyan schools, coached 1,200 children and benefitted a further 6,500 people by improving community sports facilities and creating opportunities.

The rural Kenyan communities the programme benefits have around 70% of people living below the poverty line and access to proper sanitation, clean drinking water, healthcare and an education are often limited or non-existent. Sports development has long been recognised as a tool for sustainable community development and with your help we can help create more future sporting legends from a nation that has a great sporting history.

Your Role as a Volunteer:

As a Bristol volunteer on the SDX programme, you will travel to Kenya as part of a team on a 4-week expedition where you will spend a month working with several local schools coaching football, netball, athletics and hockey and improving school and community sports facilities.  The month culminates in an amazing two-day interschool sports festival, which your team will organise and run. The SDX programme will also give you the chance to:

•               Instil values such as discipline, teamwork, respect and fair play

•               Foster skills such as leadership, problem solving and organisation

•               Bridge cultural and ethnic divides and address gender equality

•               Improve health and fitness

•               Identify and harness talent and create ambition

•               Create business opportunities, enterprise and employment
